Be Inspired

I was talking to my cousin today about decorating. I was saying that sometimes the best way to get inspired with ideas is to start with something you love. We were talking about her bathroom, so for example, I was saying if she had a shower curtain, or knobs, or a light fixture that she loved, then she could work off of that.

Most of us can't just picture a room done and decorated...sometimes we need a little inspiration. A common phrase I hear is, "I thought I'd paint this room orange (because they like orange)...but not sure what I will do with the rest". Instead, maybe you should find something with orange in it, if orange inspires you, and decorate around it.

(I always have to give the side note that I have never studied this...it's just my personal taste, experiences and failures...so take it for what it's worth.)

So, here are some examples of what I am talking about. This person maybe found this chandelier and LOVED it and decided to decorate around it. Or had the couch and wanted to decorate around it. Or maybe the whole room was inspired by the drift wood coffee table? Or maybe they loved blue, but instead of painting the whole room blue, they used it in the couch.

Another example...maybe the person who decorated this room loved the floor and decided to decorate the whole room accordingly. Or maybe they had the table and wanted to make the room work according to it. Or maybe the stove was the inspiration.

I'm not saying you can't paint a room a color you love...just know where you are going from there.

Or this headboard. I also love how if you have something amazing...like the headboard...you make everything else simple, so people notice the headboard and it becomes the focal point.
